Little Steps to Moderate Weight Loss

Perhaps I should dust this off....

The "weight issue" continues to be a struggle in my thought process. I asked myself the question (really) "if nobody else cared what I weigh, would I?" Then I had to laugh, because the people that matter to me DON'T care what I weigh.... their love for me is based on ME, not my weight. Yet, being overweight still bothers me most days. Question answered!

So it is Monday. My favorite day to make a new beginning. Day One of resuming my journey to better fitness. My journey thus far has been:

  • Lose weight after baby #6
  • Pregnancy / gain / have baby #7
  • Lose weight after baby #7
  • Pregnancy / gain / have baby #8 {smile!}

And now, resume journey to better fitness after having precious baby #8.  Exciting, yes?

It may not be as easy for me this time.... since having such a terrible case of mastitis last fall, my energy never has bounced back fully. I am busier than ever with our large family and homestead responsibilities.

In my favor for successful weight loss is my wonderful support system (Hubby and clan) and a nursing baby (lots of calories used there!) and a whole lot of determination.  And, the trust that "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."  Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

My Plan: do this again {smile} Past experience has already shown me what I need to do. Now, I just need to stop being lazy and show a little self-control in the portion department.

And, I need to ramp up the exercise. My mile a day just isn't enough for me to lose with right now. I need to squeeze a little more exercise into the schedule. Walking and the like should do it. I hope to exercise twice a day, for a short amount of time each session. Sitting at the computer must not burn many calories!

Little steps to Moderate weight loss, is my goal. I don't have a deadline in mind.... just the goal of getting back on track with fitness, getting some energy back, and perhaps even getting this elastic out of the waistbands of my skirts. {smile}

I gotta go. I'm not burning many calories sitting here....

You can do it Julie! Your views on fitness (among many other things) is one of the main reasons I started reading your blog. I love the time you allow yourself and reading about your journey. I'm on the same path and know how exhausting it can be but we both know its worth it to feel healthy and energized! Espcially for you following 8 kiddo's around! I'll be praying for your continued journey!

Julie,

You will have so much success with those little consistent steps. And yes, the extra calories burned with breastfeeding is better than just about any other weight loss plan. I'm still nursing our two year old and feel it makes a difference.

You have the right idea, don't put too much pressure on yourself and take it one choice at a time. It's all about being healthier, right?

Warm wishes for your health seeking journey!

sounds like a great plan...most of us want instant results...then get off schedule...

Love that last line. lol Isn't that So True!! I find that one thing that helps me is sitting with a cereal bowl of celery sticks, broccoli flowerettes?, carrot sticks, and almonds in the evening while my husband is eating the nightly popcorn. Lots of soluble fibre, a little protein, and staying away from popcorn and candy! Success is not always guaranteed...

Thanks for the tips and encouragement, Judy! :o)

We have nightly popcorn as well.... perhaps a smaller bowl will do for me.

When I was unhappy with my weight a few years ago I bought a pedometer. It really helped me to be able to see if I was as active as I thought I was (I wasn't many days). It turned out my creeping weight gain was probably due to not being active enough. Over several months I was able to slowly drop pounds by meeting, or exceeding, daily activity level goals.

With spring coming up, maybe you will be able to get outside and do more "stuff" too. I know it's hard for me to want to be very active during the winter. Summer eating always seems "lighter" too!

A little extra walking and gardening. A little less bread,cake,biscuits, potatoes. Plenty of steamed veg to fill you up. You can do it.
God Bless.
