Off to a good start, I am! Slow and steady wins the race, I know, but I wanted to get myself back into the exercise habit by plunging in. It was a good choice for me, because today I can look at my food journal and exercise log and see 4 miles for yesterday, and that feels great! (although my feet are kind of tired)
Finding motivation for exercise can be a struggle, I know. Way back when fitness first became something I thought about, exercise didn't seem like fun at all. Since I found what I enjoy (home exercise videos) motivation isn't much of a problem. However, finding the time and the energy for exercise isn't always easy!
Ordinarily, I enjoy "doing a mile" a couple of times throughout the day.... usually one in the morning and one or two more in the afternoon. A mile takes roughly 15 minutes, and my children are always nearby and some of them like to walk with me.... right in our livingroom.
Come summertime, we'll walk laps around our fenced yard. I used my pedometer and discovered 12 laps is a mile, so it is fun to keep track of our distance through the summer. Fun fitness for the whole family, indeed!
Even though it is easier not to, I have also begun my food journal again. Writing down everything I eat and drink has been a great tool in my past weight loss success. My daughter got me a super-cute notebook to encourage me, too. Wasn't that sweet?
This is a lifestyle, friends. Persistence will yield results.... and I am going to enjoy the journey as much as the destination! Real food and regular exercise will get me back to where I want to be. Thanks so much for the lovely encouragement and tips that you gave yesterday. Sweet comments are a blessing.
How about you? We are all busy, when do you find time for a little exercise in your day?

Personally, I am looking forward to summer when my dogs and I can walk laps around the alfalfa field. That's my favorite place to walk! Keep up the good work. It's so easy to get sidetracked, but so worth staying on course. (this is an admonition to myself) :-)
Julie, I think I may just use you as my motivation. It's just been so darned hard to get that time in on the treadmill, and even though you sent me that WONDERFUL workout video, I'm ashamed to admit how little I've used it so far :(
So although I'm not going to start any type of competition, I will use you as a "Hey, Look what Julie did with EIGHT kids....I can do that too!!"
No to get myself a little journal, pop that DVD back in the player and do some mileage this afternoon (or evening!).
Good luck, "partner"!
:)
Sounds good, Carolyn. If you want variety, check out youtube. I've been doing her workouts on there and they are fun (and free!).
I would love it if we could all encourage one another to be healthy and fit mamas and homesteaders, too!
Julie,
That's awesome! 4 miles! You are well on your way to better health!
Have a beautiful day!

Good for you!! I am seriously needing some motivation~the candy bar dangling in front of the treadmill just isn't doing it for me anymore! ;)
A few years ago, I lost 42 inches (I didn't care about the pounds) by keeping a food/exercise journal. I think that is the key to success~sometimes we don't realize what we've actually put into our mouths until we see it on paper!
Now, I guess it's time for me to go for a walk too! :)
Thanks RaShell!
Kim, true, true! Congrats on your former success. I'm in the same boat, time to do it again!
Aren't food journals great?! I do much better when I am accountable to writing every morsel down, for sure.
Oh, this is fun.... I will re-read these comments if I need motivation. Thanks, everybody.
I am going to the gym in 10 minutes...
We like to get out and walk in the morning right after milking and feeding the critters. I like the idea of a food journal and I alredy have a little book I can use. :)
I am so needing to get back at it. I have been walking a few times this week but really need to get at it everyday and make it a priority in my daily schedule. So hard for us moms isn't it.
It sure can be hard to find time, but oh, so important! Being a healthy mama is important to me, even more so after having baby #8 at 42! I love home exercise videos, they are my fitness solution for sure. :o)
Thanks for your encouraging comment.
